IRS Whistleblower Challenges DOJ's Handling of Hunter Biden Investigation

Created: JANUARY 25, 2025

In a recent interview on Fox News' "Special Report," IRS whistleblower Gary Shapley stood by his allegations of preferential treatment for Hunter Biden by the Department of Justice. Shapley, a seasoned IRS agent with 14 years of experience, asserts that the investigation into Hunter Biden's finances was deliberately slowed down as the 2020 election approached. He claims Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss, appointed by Trump, privately confessed on multiple occasions that he wasn't in control of the investigation.

Shapley recounted a meeting last fall where Weiss allegedly admitted to not being the ultimate decision-maker. He emphasized the significance of this revelation, stating he even asked Weiss to repeat his statement to ensure he understood correctly. This account directly contradicts Attorney General Merrick Garland's recent denial of whistleblower claims of interference in the Hunter Biden probe by the Justice Department, FBI, and IRS.

Shapley confirmed he distinctly remembers the meeting and has documented the conversation. Last week, the House Ways and Means Committee disclosed testimony from two IRS whistleblowers alleging interference from DOJ, FBI, and IRS officials in Weiss's tax evasion case against Hunter Biden. These whistleblowers also claimed investigators attempted to restrict questioning related to President Biden and suggested political influence on decisions within the case.

Shapley, one of the whistleblowers, publicly accused DOJ officials of deliberately stalling the case. He revealed that two search warrants for properties linked to Biden were prepared but were not executed as the 2020 election neared. He contends that despite meeting the legal requirements, prosecutors delayed the warrants. Furthermore, he alleges that potential felony charges against Biden, including tax evasion and filing false returns, were not pursued.

Hunter Biden has pled guilty to two misdemeanor counts of willful failure to pay federal income tax in a deal anticipated to prevent jail time. He also agreed to a pretrial diversion agreement concerning a separate firearm possession charge. The Justice Department maintains that Weiss had complete authority over the investigation, including deciding where, when, and whether to file charges. The White House consistently denies President Biden's involvement in or discussions about his son's business dealings.
