Madeline Kingsbury's Ex-Boyfriend Charged with Murder After Remains Found

Created: JANUARY 24, 2025

The disappearance of Madeline Kingsbury on March 31st reached a heartbreaking conclusion with the discovery of her remains near the Minnesota-Iowa border. Her ex-boyfriend, Adam Fravel, 29, has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder. Kingsbury's body was discovered wrapped in a bedsheet and a knotted towel was found around her neck, according to official documents.

Court documents reveal a disturbing detail: a concerned individual informed authorities that Fravel had previously stated Kingsbury would "end up like Gabby Petito" if she didn't comply with his demands. Fravel reportedly had a morbid fascination with Petito's case. He admitted to making the comment but dismissed it as a joke. However, loved ones refuted this claim, alleging a history of physical abuse by Fravel towards Kingsbury, including instances of strangulation.

Kingsbury, a 26-year-old mother, was last seen dropping her children off at daycare. A friend recounted witnessing Fravel strike Kingsbury during a video call while she was holding one of her children and preparing dinner. Family members also reported an incident where Fravel allegedly choked Kingsbury, leaving a visible mark on her neck.

Text message exchanges between Kingsbury and Fravel, dating back several years, further corroborate the claims of abuse. In one conversation, Kingsbury confronted Fravel about putting his hands around her neck and pushing her down in front of their children. His dismissive response further highlights the toxic nature of their relationship.

The couple, who shared two children aged 2 and 5, had a tumultuous relationship spanning seven years. Kingsbury worked as a research coordinator, while Fravel was a software engineer. They were reportedly in the process of separating when Kingsbury disappeared. The morning of her disappearance, the couple dropped their children off at daycare together, and Kingsbury sent a text message to her sister shortly after. This was the last communication received from her.

An extensive search effort, involving law enforcement, family, friends, and volunteers, ensued following her disappearance. Kingsbury's remains were eventually located on June 7th, wrapped in a bedsheet and secured with tape, in a rural area near Fravel's family's property. The bedsheet matched bedding from the couple's shared residence.
