Omaha police uncovered a disturbing "hit list" at the residence of Matthew Briggs, a 41-year-old Nebraska man who was fatally shot by law enforcement in western Iowa. Briggs was suspected of homicide and carjacking. Two firearms were recovered from the stolen vehicle Briggs was driving. The list, discovered during a search of Briggs' Papillion, Nebraska home, contained the name of Steven Donsbach, the 52-year-old homicide victim, as well as the names of two of Briggs' former girlfriends.
The series of violent events began early Saturday morning when Briggs allegedly broke into the home of an ex-girlfriend and assaulted her. Shortly after, he reportedly drove his car through the garage door of another ex-girlfriend's residence. Although she was not home, Briggs is accused of firing shots at a neighbor who came to investigate the commotion. Fortunately, the neighbor was unharmed.

Investigators believe Briggs shot and killed Donsbach in his Omaha home. Donsbach's name, as mentioned, was on the list found at Briggs' residence. Following the homicide, Briggs allegedly carjacked a vehicle in west Omaha. Law enforcement located the stolen car and pursued Briggs across the Missouri River into Council Bluffs, Iowa. After crashing the vehicle, Briggs was confronted by officers from both Omaha and Council Bluffs. He was shot after allegedly brandishing a firearm at the officers and later died at an Omaha hospital.
The officers involved in the shooting have been placed on paid administrative leave while the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation conducts a standard investigation into the incident.
