Reports of NFL players violating the league's gambling policy have seemingly increased recently, with one player allegedly losing a staggering $8 million on sports betting in 2022, according to a league source cited by ProFootball Talk's Mike Florio.

It remains unclear whether these wagers violated league rules or if this player is among the five already suspended this offseason for gambling-related infractions. This news comes as the NFL grapples with several gambling-related incidents. Earlier this year, five players, including four Detroit Lions, faced suspensions. Quintez Cephus and C.J. Moore received indefinite suspensions for allegedly betting on NFL games, while Stanley Berryhill and Jameson Williams were suspended for six games for betting on non-NFL games at a team facility. The Lions released Moore, Cephus, and Berryhill following their suspensions.

Lions coach Dan Campbell emphasized the league's focus on gambling, stating that it's a significant issue and that the team has repeatedly addressed it with players. Washington Commanders defensive end Shaka Toney also received an indefinite suspension for allegedly betting on NFL games.

Last week, reports emerged about an NFL investigation into gambling allegations within the Indianapolis Colts organization. Cornerback Isaiah Rodgers Sr. has been absent from practice and issued a statement acknowledging an "error in judgment" after being linked to the investigation, though the team and league have not officially named him.
