Jacksonville Jaguars coach Doug Pederson addressed the recent on-field altercation with the Houston Texans, firmly denying accusations that his players intentionally targeted anyone. The brawl erupted after Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair delivered a late hit to Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence as he slid. Pederson emphasized that the team's focus is on playing within the rules and winning games, not injuring opponents. He expressed surprise at Houston coach DeMeco Ryans's suggestion that the Jaguars' sideline escalated the situation.

Pederson reiterated his coaching philosophy, stating, "We’re not out to hurt anybody. We’re not out to ruin careers... We’re just going to go out and do our jobs. Play hard, play fast, play physical within the rules." Al-Shaair received a three-game suspension for the hit, which resulted in Lawrence's second concussion in less than a year. Al-Shaair issued an apology, explaining he hadn't seen Lawrence slide in time and expressing remorse for the incident. Lawrence has subsequently been placed on injured reserve, ending his season.
