Malibu Man's Home Spared from Palisades Fire, Thanks El Segundo Firefighters

Created: JANUARY 27, 2025

A Malibu resident recently expressed his sincere gratitude to the El Segundo Fire Department's Engine 31 C Platoon for saving his home from the devastating Palisades Fire. Dr. Anthony Nesburn traveled to El Segundo to attend a ceremony honoring the firefighters and thank them in person.

Dr. Nesburn told FOX 11 that the firefighters not only saved his house but also left a heartfelt note in his mailbox explaining how they prevented the flames from spreading from the burning neighboring house to his property. The note mentioned the intense fire engulfing the adjacent home and their efforts to stop it from reaching his. Nesburn expressed profound relief, stating he hadn't known how his home survived until receiving the note.

This positive news came after a difficult year for Nesburn, who lost his wife last year. He shared with FOX 11 that he felt her presence watching over him during the fire's rage. The firefighters' note also acknowledged the widespread devastation in the neighborhood, offering condolences for the losses suffered by others.

While Nesburn's home sustained only minimal damage to a side door, many of his neighbors were not as fortunate. His son, who resides in the Pacific Palisades, also lost his home in the fire.

El Segundo firefighter Matt Goodenough told FOX 11 that saving Nesburn's ocean-view home was a particularly proud moment for the team. They marked the saved house with a pink ribbon, a symbol of their success in protecting it from the flames. Firefighter Bryan Partlow noted the unprecedented wind conditions during the Palisades Fire, which made their task even more challenging. He emphasized that they typically don't discuss their work publicly and expressed humility at the recognition.

Both the Palisades Fire and the Eaton Fire, which ignited last month and displaced thousands, have now been fully contained after weeks of firefighting efforts.
