A 20-year-old suspect, Eddy Brito-Almonte, surrendered to Philadelphia authorities after allegedly injuring a police officer during a traffic stop. The incident occurred on Monday when a highway patrol officer stopped Brito-Almonte's silver Tesla for a traffic violation. During the investigation, an officer reportedly saw a firearm inside the vehicle and attempted to seize it. Brito-Almonte then allegedly accelerated, dragging the officer for about half a block before fleeing the scene.

The officer sustained a broken leg and was taken to Jefferson-Torresdale Hospital. He is now recovering at home. Brito-Almonte's Tesla was found abandoned approximately six miles from the incident in North Philadelphia, about 30 minutes after the event, according to surveillance footage.

An arrest warrant was issued for Brito-Almonte, listing charges including aggravated assault with a vehicle, fleeing police, simple assault, and firearms violations. Brito-Almonte is currently in custody.
