Several teenagers were among seven individuals taken into custody in Lausanne, Switzerland, after a disturbance involving vandalism and confrontations with law enforcement. The incident appears to be inspired by the ongoing riots in neighboring France, sparked by the fatal police shooting of a teenager in a Paris suburb.
Over 100 individuals congregated in Lausanne's city center on Saturday evening, responding to calls circulating on social media platforms. These online messages linked the gathering to the unrest in France. The situation escalated as shop windows and a doorway were damaged, and some individuals threw paving stones and a Molotov cocktail at police officers. Authorities responded by dispersing the crowd and apprehending seven people, six of whom were minors aged 15 to 17. The group included three girls and three boys of various nationalities, including Portuguese, Somali, Bosnian, Swiss, Georgian, and Serbian. A 24-year-old Swiss man was also detained. No police officers sustained injuries during the incident. This event follows similar disturbances in Brussels, Belgium, where around a dozen individuals were detained and several fires extinguished.
