The search for a two-year-old girl, Wynter Cole Smith, has ended tragically. Her body was discovered in a Detroit alley three days after she was abducted from her Lansing home. The abduction followed a violent home invasion and assault on her mother, allegedly perpetrated by the mother's ex-boyfriend, 26-year-old Rashad Price.
Price is accused of stealing his ex's vehicle and kidnapping Smith after the Sunday night attack. Police pursued him the following morning until he crashed his vehicle approximately 90 miles away in St. Claire Shores. Smith was not found in the car, triggering an extensive search effort involving multiple agencies spanning the area between Detroit and Lansing.

The search concluded near Knodell and Erwin streets in Detroit, close to Coleman A. Young Airport, where the young girl's body was discovered. Lansing Police Chief Ellery Sosebee confirmed the tragic outcome, stating that the case has transitioned from a missing child investigation to a homicide investigation. While the specifics of the discovery remain undisclosed, Chief Sosebee pledged that law enforcement would ensure justice for the family.
Price has been arraigned on eight felony charges, including two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and assault with intent to murder, and is being held without bail. These charges stem from the initial attack on Smith's mother.

The Ingham County Prosecutor's Office expressed their devastation upon learning of Smith's death and offered condolences to her family. Additional charges against Price are anticipated as the investigation progresses. While Price is not Smith's father, he had a prior relationship with her mother.

Smith's family issued a statement expressing their profound grief and calling for legislative action to address violent offenders. They plan to hold a vigil in Smith's memory. Smith's one-year-old son, who was present during the initial attack, was unharmed. Her mother is reportedly in stable condition and recovering in a hospital. The family has requested that anyone with information or video evidence contact the Lansing Police Department or the FBI.
