White House Calls Out Senator Murphy for Mistaking Parody Account for Lara Trump's

Created: JANUARY 25, 2025

The White House engaged in a heated exchange with Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) after the senator publicly criticized what he mistakenly believed to be a post by Lara Trump. The post, originating from a parody account, suggested that border czar Tom Homan should arrest Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) for advising undocumented immigrants on how to avoid deportation. The White House's Rapid Response X account, created to combat misinformation, called out Murphy's error, stating, "You are a moron, Chris. It is obvious this page is not affiliated with President Trump, his family, or the administration." They added, while supporting his right to free speech, that his statement made him appear foolish.

Murphy's original post, containing expletives, criticized what he perceived as hypocrisy from the Trump administration, citing concerns about free speech while simultaneously suggesting the arrest of a Democratic representative. A community note on X later clarified that the post Murphy referenced came from a parody account. Murphy's office has not yet responded to requests for comment.

The parody account's post likely referenced a recent "Know Your Rights" webinar hosted by Ocasio-Cortez's office, providing information to undocumented immigrants on how to navigate potential encounters with immigration authorities. Tom Homan, former acting director of ICE and current border czar, has reportedly consulted with the Justice Department to investigate whether Ocasio-Cortez's actions obstruct law enforcement. In an interview on "The Ingraham Angle," Homan questioned whether Ocasio-Cortez had crossed a legal line and suggested potential consequences for her actions.
