Democratic strategist James Carville has reiterated his advice to Democrats, suggesting they "play possum" and wait for what he believes is an impending decline in President Trump's standing. Speaking on "Hannity" Thursday, Carville stated, "I'm telling the Democrats, just sit there, play possum. Let them go, let them go, let them go. Poll numbers have declined, and the collapse is already underway... Just let the ball come to you. We don't need to be aggressive now."
This echoes advice Carville offered earlier in the week on MSNBC, where he encouraged a similar strategy of inaction in response to Trump and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)'s actions. He argued that Democrats should "play possum" and simply "let it go."
Carville and Sean Hannity debated the current political landscape, with Carville citing poll averages from RealClearPolitics to support his claim that Trump is the "lowest rated president at this point of any president in American history." Hannity countered with polls suggesting positive approval ratings for the president, including one from CBS News/YouGuv.

Recent polls present a mixed picture of Trump's approval. While some show a slight downward trend since his inauguration, others suggest positive or divided public opinion. Quinnipiac, Gallup, and Reuters/Ipsos polls all show fluctuating approval ratings around the mid-40% range.

Carville, who incorrectly predicted a Kamala Harris victory, defended his projection, attributing the loss to a narrow margin and emphasizing that Democrats even gained a congressional seat. He then shifted focus to his disagreements with the Republican Party on issues like abortion, tax cuts, and foreign policy.
Hannity challenged Carville on his critiques of Democrats and their focus on issues like transgender athletes in women's sports and illegal immigration. Carville responded that he wasn't aware of any Democrats campaigning on those platforms, stating his primary concern was affordable healthcare.
