A Florida woman has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of her husband in 2015. Laurie Shaver, 41, was convicted of second-degree murder in September for the death of Michael Shaver, 36. She showed little emotion during her sentencing as the judge handed down the life sentence.

Michael Shaver, a Disney World technician, was reported missing in 2018, three years after he was last seen in November 2015. Investigators discovered his remains buried under a firepit and concrete slab in the backyard of the couple's Claremont home, located west of Orlando.

Following Michael's disappearance, Laurie Shaver maintained a deceptive facade, sending texts and Facebook messages posing as him and telling acquaintances that he had left the family and relocated to different states. She was eventually apprehended in 2020.

During the trial, Laurie Shaver attempted to shift blame for the murder, claiming Michael was abusive and alleging that her 7-year-old daughter was responsible for his death. Her daughter, now 15, testified in her defense, stating under oath that she had shot her father to protect her mother. However, the jury ultimately found Laurie Shaver guilty.

Michael Shaver's brother, Brian Shaver, spoke at the sentencing, expressing the family's grief and the irreparable loss they have suffered. A friend of Michael also submitted a letter to the judge, urging that Laurie Shaver remain incarcerated due to her perceived lack of remorse. Laurie Shaver's attorney has filed an appeal.
