The family also shared Howard's wish to continue instilling the importance of respect and gratitude in young people, symbolized by the phrase: "Yes Sir, No Sir, Please & Thank You." He passed away peacefully, holding his wife's hand on Valentine's Day.

Beyond his memorable role in "Full Metal Jacket," Howard's acting career included appearances in television series such as "Magnum, P.I.," "MacGyver," and "Cagney and Lacey." He also shared the screen with Clint Eastwood in "Sudden Impact." After retiring from acting, Howard transitioned to a successful career as a headshot photographer. His last acting credit was in a 1999 episode of "Crusade."

In "Full Metal Jacket," Howard portrayed Rafterman, a combat photographer accompanying Matthew Modine's character, Joker.
