In a six-week operation, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) confiscated over 9 pounds of fentanyl in San Francisco—a quantity with the potential to eliminate over 2.1 million lives, according to the Drug Enforcement Administration's (DEA) lethal dose estimate of 2 milligrams. Governor Gavin Newsom announced the seizures on Thursday, highlighting the success of new jurisdictional protocols and the deployment of CHP officers. The operation, conducted in the Tenderloin District and surrounding areas, also netted significant amounts of cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine, along with 92 arrests for various offenses.

These seizures are a testament to the collaborative efforts of the CHP and the California National Guard, Governor Newsom stated, emphasizing the need for continued action to address San Francisco's drug crisis, assist those struggling with addiction, and remove fentanyl from communities. The governor expressed his pride in the lifesaving efforts of law enforcement.
