Oran Routh, son of the man accused of attempting to assassinate former President Donald Trump, has pleaded guilty to a federal child pornography charge. The plea took place during a hearing in Greensboro, North Carolina, where Routh exhibited unusual behavior, providing rambling responses to Judge William Osteen's questions. Following the accepted plea, Routh was taken into custody, having previously been in his mother's care. He voiced claims of political persecution as he was escorted from the courtroom.

His father, Ryan Wesley Routh, is accused of aiming a firearm at then-candidate Trump at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, on September 15, 2024. Ryan Routh allegedly waited for over twelve hours concealed in the surrounding vegetation with a rifle. A Secret Service agent reportedly fired upon Routh after observing him pointing the rifle through a fence. Routh was apprehended later that day and has pleaded not guilty to multiple charges, including attempted assassination of a presidential candidate and assaulting a federal officer.

The younger Routh's arrest stemmed from the discovery of child sexual abuse material during a separate investigation. He admitted guilt to possessing child pornography involving a minor under 12, leading to the dismissal of other federal charges. His sentencing is scheduled for May.
