A tragic incident unfolded near Germany's renowned Neuschwanstein Castle on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, resulting in the death of a young American woman and the arrest of a fellow American tourist. The suspect, a 30-year-old man, allegedly encountered two American women, aged 21 and 22, on a hiking trail and persuaded them to follow him to a secluded viewpoint.
According to police reports, the suspect physically assaulted the younger woman. When her 22-year-old companion attempted to intervene, the suspect allegedly choked her and shoved her down a steep slope, causing her to fall approximately 165 feet. He then allegedly attempted a sexual assault on the 21-year-old before pushing her down the same precipice.

Rescue teams swiftly responded to the scene. The 22-year-old victim was transported to a local hospital and kept overnight for observation. The 21-year-old sustained critical injuries and was airlifted to another hospital, where she tragically succumbed to her injuries. The suspect fled the scene but was apprehended shortly thereafter.

A witness who recorded footage of the suspect's arrest expressed astonishment that anyone could survive such a fall and commended the rapid response and skill of the rescue helicopter team. A judge in Kempten ordered the suspect to be held in custody pending a potential indictment. He faces charges of murder, attempted murder, and a sexual offense. The identities of the suspect and victims have not been released.
