Charles Barkley, the legendary "Round Mound of Rebound," has recently garnered attention for his significant weight loss. During an appearance on Turner Sports’ pregame show before Game 4 of the Stanley Cup final, Barkley discussed the motivation behind shedding approximately 60 pounds.
Barkley revealed his doctor's candid assessment of his health played a crucial role. "My doctor told me I was fat," Barkley stated. "She emphasized the absence of 'fat old people,' only 'fat young people,' warning him about the potential health consequences if he didn't address his weight. This direct advice served as a wake-up call for the Basketball Hall of Famer.
Barkley previously disclosed utilizing the medication Mounjaro to aid in his weight loss journey. In an interview on "The Pat McAfee Show," he shared his progress, having gone from 352 pounds down to 290. Mounjaro, similar to Ozempic and Wegovy, is designed to help manage blood sugar levels in adults with Type 2 diabetes, alongside diet and exercise, as per FDA guidelines.
While Mounjaro's primary purpose is diabetes management, other similar medications like Wegovy and Ozempic have gained recognition for their role in weight loss. Wegovy, specifically, received FDA approval in 2021 for treating chronic obesity, while Ozempic focuses on Type 2 diabetes.
