Authorities in Las Vegas conducted a search of a residence in Henderson, Nevada, on Monday, July 17, 2023, as part of the ongoing investigation into the unsolved 1996 murder of iconic rapper Tupac Shakur. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department confirmed the execution of the search warrant but refrained from disclosing further details regarding the nature of the search or its potential connection to the case.
Shakur's tragic demise occurred on September 7, 1996, following a drive-by shooting that took place shortly after he attended a Mike Tyson boxing match. The incident stemmed from an altercation Shakur had with Orlando Anderson, a Los Angeles gang member, earlier that evening. Anderson had previously been involved in a separate incident with a member of Shakur's Death Row Records entourage. Hours after the altercation with Shakur, Anderson was assaulted. Shakur, tragically, succumbed to his injuries six days after the shooting, leaving a void in the hip-hop community.
Over the years, various theories and accounts have emerged surrounding Shakur's murder. One notable account came from Duane Keith Davis, a former member of the Crips gang, who implicated his nephew, Orlando Anderson, as the shooter in a documentary series. Despite these accounts and ongoing investigations, the case remains officially unsolved.
The search conducted this week underscores the continued efforts to bring closure to this high-profile case. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has been contacted for further comment and updates on the investigation.
