The New York Yankees' "Hope Week" started with a hopeful message: Aaron Judge's return to the field might be sooner than later. During an interview on the TODAY Show, Judge, Gerrit Cole, and manager Aaron Boone discussed the initiative and, inevitably, Judge's health.
Judge, sidelined since June 3rd with a torn toe ligament, hinted at a post-All-Star break return, saying, "Hopefully soon...We got the All-Star Game coming up, so hopefully that will buy me a couple days and we’ll be back there soon." Cole's reaction – clasped hands in prayer – spoke volumes about the team's desire for their MVP's return.
Judge's absence has been deeply felt. In the 30 days since his injury, the Yankees have struggled offensively, ranking last in batting average and on-base percentage, and second-to-last in OPS. Despite these offensive woes, the team clings to the final AL wild card spot, a mere game and a half ahead of the Toronto Blue Jays.
Even while injured, Judge remains a vital presence, offering leadership and support to his teammates. "Help a teammate, pick a teammate up. If I see someone struggling during a game, try to give them words of encouragement," Judge stated, emphasizing his commitment to the team's success even from the sidelines.
Prior to the injury, Judge was having another stellar season, building on his record-breaking 62 home runs in 2022. With a .291 batting average, 19 home runs, and 40 RBIs in 49 games, his return is eagerly anticipated by the Yankees and their fans.
