IRS Whistleblower's Lawyer Alleges Obstruction in Hunter Biden Investigation

Created: JANUARY 25, 2025

Attorney Mark Lytle, representing IRS whistleblower Gary Shapley, revealed in an interview on "The Story with Martha MacCallum" that investigators repeatedly faced roadblocks when attempting to pursue leads potentially involving President Biden in the Hunter Biden case. Lytle emphasized investigators' reluctance to explore these avenues.

Lytle highlighted a critical piece of evidence obtained through a search warrant of Hunter Biden's iCloud account: a WhatsApp message from Hunter to a Chinese business associate. This message, Lytle asserted, came directly from Apple's servers and not Hunter's laptop, bolstering its credibility. The message, referencing Hunter's father being present, pertained to unfulfilled business commitments. Lytle stated that investigators sought to corroborate the message's details, such as verifying the locations of Hunter and his father at the time, but prosecutors rejected these investigative steps.

This incident, Lytle claimed, exemplifies a pattern of obstruction within the investigation. He explained that investigators were frequently discouraged from pursuing lines of inquiry that could implicate President Biden, echoing concerns raised by Shapley in his testimony before the House Ways and Means Committee. Shapley's testimony, recently released, details allegations of interference from the DOJ, FBI, and IRS in the Hunter Biden tax evasion investigation.

The testimony alleges a concerted effort to shield the president's son, including delaying investigative actions, leaking information, and denying investigative requests. These actions, according to Shapley, consistently benefited Hunter Biden and hindered the investigation's progress. One specific example cited by Shapley involved a potential search warrant for the Biden family's Delaware guest house. Despite believing crucial evidence resided there, prosecutors allegedly dismissed the idea due to "optics."

These revelations come on the heels of Hunter Biden's plea deal involving two misdemeanor tax charges and a pretrial diversion agreement for a firearm charge. The DOJ has maintained that U.S. Attorney David Weiss had full authority over the case, including charging decisions. The DOJ's statement directs questions regarding the investigation to Weiss' office.
