Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre declined to comment on President Biden's seventh grandchild, Navy Joan Roberts, during a recent White House press briefing. This marks the second instance where the administration has avoided addressing questions about the four-year-old, whose father is Hunter Biden.
A reporter specifically asked Jean-Pierre about a New York Times article focusing on Navy Joan, inquiring whether President Biden recognizes her as his granddaughter. Jean-Pierre simply stated she had nothing to share on the matter.

This silence has sparked criticism and speculation on social media, with some commentators highlighting the seeming contradiction between the President's public pronouncements about family values and his lack of acknowledgment of his seventh grandchild. Others have questioned why the White House refuses to simply confirm the President's relationship with Navy Joan.
The issue was first raised in May when Hunter Biden appeared in an Arkansas court for a paternity case related to Navy Joan. At that time, Jean-Pierre similarly declined to comment, prompting questions from the press corps.

According to reports, Lunden Alexis Roberts, Navy Joan's mother, met Hunter Biden while working at a gentlemen's club in Washington D.C. While President Biden has frequently spoken about his grandchildren in public, he has consistently maintained he has six grandchildren, omitting any mention of Navy Joan. The New York Times reported that White House aides have been instructed to publicly state that the president has six grandchildren. A recent court filing indicates Hunter Biden has agreed to provide his daughter with some of his artwork, and Roberts has withdrawn her request to change their child's last name to "Biden."
