In a testament to resilience and determination, Fort Worth Police Officer Matt Brazeal is poised to return to duty next month after a grueling three-year recovery from a near-fatal incident. On June 13, 2020, Officer Brazeal was critically injured while attempting to stop a fleeing suspect in a stolen vehicle. As he deployed tire deflation devices, the suspect swerved, striking Brazeal and dragging him over 100 feet.

The incident left Officer Brazeal with severe injuries, including a broken pelvis, multiple fractures, a collapsed lung, and a brain injury. His journey back to health has been marked by an astounding 60 surgeries and countless rehabilitation sessions. His most recent surgery took place on Wednesday, which he hopes will be his last.

Speaking with FOX 4, Officer Brazeal acknowledged the mental and emotional challenges of his prolonged recovery, emphasizing the need for "mental fortitude" to overcome setbacks. His unwavering spirit has been an inspiration to his colleagues and the community.

Fort Worth Police Chief Neil Noakes, who has developed a close relationship with Brazeal during his recovery, praised the officer's remarkable physical and mental toughness, stating that these qualities were instrumental in his survival and recovery.

The suspect in the case, 38-year-old Ronnie Jackson Jr., was apprehended shortly after the incident. His criminal trial is scheduled to commence in September.
